Venue: Stadio Luigi Ferraris

The frustration of failing to clinch the scudetto and the early exit during the Champions League was a major burden that Napoli has to let go. As Serie A begins, the club is in dire need of a strong start in order to avoid the mistakes of the past. But how long will they last considering the fact that they still need to overcome the pressure of winning over Athletic Bilbao in the current Champions League qualifier?

The contenders

Genoa

Genoa almost lingered in the relegation zone last season. The club had to be content with the 14th spot instead of being forced to lose its Serie A status. The return of Gian Piero Gasperini was a smart move as  he prevented the club’s possible demise.

Gasperini has been also impressive in terms of his performance in the ongoing transfer market, signing the likes of Giannis Fergarzuidis, Juraj Kucka and former AC Milan player, Alessandro Matri.

With these new faces gracing Genoa’s camp, the club is expected to have a better finish this season, instead of being satisfied with a mere survival.

Napoli

Currently, winning is the only thing that matters within Napoli’s camp. Prior to the season’s kick off, the club has already immersed in an action-packed match when it went against Athletic Bilbao. The battle’s winner will determine which between the 2 clubs will progress to the Champions League.

The first leg ended in a 1-1 draw and the second leg will be held at Napoli’s camp. A win will readily inspire them to have a strong start during the season’s opening. But a defeat forces them to have a stronger approach.

The Partenopei was one of the title contenders last season along with AS Roma and Juventus. Unfortunately, inconsistent performances left them with no other option, but to settle for the 3rd spot. But despite the drop, it cannot be denied that Napoli remains as one of the strongest clubs in Italy’s top-flight league.

Possible head turners

Gonzalo Higuain will continue to do the scoring spree for the club. Many will also expect the newly signed, Michu to explode and so is the club’s captain, Marek Hamsik.

What the odds say

Apparently, Napoli remains as the match’s online betting favorite. The squad is valued to win at 1.83 in the sports betting site, 12BET.
