Like a fish out of water, Sami Hyypiä is in dire need of a victory to survive. He needs it not only for Bayer Leverkusen’s sake. He needs it to salvage his career.

Nowadays Hyypiä has been taking the center stage for the wrong reasons. After a series of successful feats that resulted to snatching the 2nd spot from Borussia Dortmund, Bayer— Hyypiä’s brain child can be seen falling in a downward spiral that veered them away from securing an automatic Champions League qualification next season. How bad is Bayer’s performance? Well, not really.

To this date, the club boasts a winless streak in its last 8 matches and thrives only through draws. These series of unfortunate events have slowly slashed their lead against other Champions League aspirants such as Borussia Dortmund and Schalke 04. Such performance is not only disappointing, but also unexpected from the club, which secured the 3rd spot last season. But perhaps, if there is anything which readily highlights Bayer’s retrogressing form, it is its defeat to Hoffenheim. The latter pulled off a late goal, which prevented the club from securing its first win.

Given this aspects at hand, one cannot help but question Bayer’s ability when they face another equally aggressive club, Augsburg. With the defeat to Hoffenheim, many questions Bayer’s eligibility to be hailed as the match’s online betting favorite.

Definitely, Augsburg is not a pushover in the match. After surviving the relegation zone last season, major improvements became evident. The club embarked in victorious spells and even had its shares of spoils and upsets against bigger football outfits. Such spectacular performance landed Augsburg in the 8th spot of the Bundesliga table—something that is very far from what it has accomplished last season.
What makes them even more frightening is the fact that more than 2.5 goals have been witnessed in their last 5 encounter against Bayer. The latter may have gotten the higher number of goals, but it is a different situation now. Definitely, Augsburg has what it takes to turn the odds into its favor.

But there is a little warning though, Bayer is unwilling to throw the white towel.

Prediction: Bayer Leverkusen
