Venue: Volkswagen Arena

Team Form

Wolfsburg

A come from behind rally propelled Wolfsburg to the 5th spot of the Bundesliga table and more importantly, opened the opportunities to participate in the European competition.

Wolfsburg took the better out of the capital club, Hertha Berlin when goals from Robin Knoche and Daniel Caliguiri stole the spotlight from the host. The win saw the newly promoted Hertha Berlin drop to the 8th spot of the table.

After the well-deserved victory, Wolfsburg will have to overcome Bayer Leverkusen to keep a tight grip of their Europa League qualification.

Wolfsburg have won thrice, loss twice and drew once in their last six (6) matches.

Bayer Leverkusen

After a disappointing exit in the German Cup, Bayer suffered another disappointing defeat when they faced Schalke 04. The two (2) consecutive losses prevented Bayer from securing a possible silverware and from widening their gap against Borussia Dortmund.

Bayer’s current form is far from being impressive as they seem to struggle with achieving consistency. First they endured a 3-match losing streak when they surrendered to Frankfurt, Bremen and Freiburg. Nevertheless, they made a convincing return when they outlasted Borussia Monchengladbach and VfB Stuttgart. However, instead of continuing their good start, the club seemed to crumble towards the end.

Overall, Bayer has only won twice in their last six (6) matches. They are still the second best club in Bundesliga, but the defeat has narrowed their lead against the former Bundesliga runner-up, Borussia Dortmund.

Prediction:  Draw

With the European competition at stake, expect both clubs to defy the odds and avoid waving the white flag. Wolfsburg still has the momentum from the Hertha Berlin win whilst Bayer is on the verge of seeking redemption from their lackluster performances. It is possible for the match to end in a scoreless even steven finish.
