Weder Bremen Ready To Continue Winning Streak

Updated: August 14, 2013

Match Preview: Werder Bremen VS. Augsburg
Match Date: 17 August 2013 (local time)
Venue: Weserstadion

Augsburg (Fuggerstädter) started a sore campaign when they lost to Borussia Dortmund. Going against Werder Bremen (The River Islanders) is their chance to redeem themselves. Yet, it is less likely to happen that the River Islanders will easily throw the white towel. As a matter of fact, even online bookies pick the former as favourites in the upcoming match.

The Bremen upset
The River Islander’s new head honcho, Robin Dutt, is still, on the verge of rebuilding the club. Suffering from a poor defence last season, clinching a victory against Braunschweig can be considered as a major improvement.

Not only did the club won, it also kept a clean sheet and more than anything else, they played in Braunschweig’s territory. Dutt’s 4-3-3 worked well for the club. Not only was it a showcase of defence improvement, but also a spectacular way to end the squad’s “first match win” dilemma.

Facing Augsburg
Bremen refuses to underestimate Augsburg. This is despite the inherent advantage that they have when playing at Weserstadion. Instead, what their supporters can look forward to is a tougher defence and a possible repetition of its previous victory.

Can Augsburg recover?
The 4-0 loss to Dortmund is a mountain to surmount. Kicking off their winning streak against Bremen might be a little difficult.

However, they can capitalize on the club’s fatigue factor. Some of Bremen’s men will be out to join their respective national teams. Özkan Yildirim, Marko Arnautovic, Zlatko Junuzovic and Sebastian Prödl are just some of the club’s players that will be having tons of actions in the coming week. Although they are expected to be be back by the 15th, Augsburg can just wish that exhaustion bogged down these players.
