Serie A Preview: AS Roma vs. Cagliari

Updated: September 16, 2014

Match Date: 21 September 2014 (local time)

Venue: Stadio Olimpico

The capital club and online betting favorite, AS Roma had an early acid test this season when they went against Empoli. The newly-promoted squad almost forced them to settle for a scoreless stalemate if not for Luigi Sepe’s own goal. This should send warning signs to AS Roma as their current stature in the top-flight league’s table is under serious threat.

Its upcoming opponent, Cagliari, for one could replicate Empoli’s approach, modify it a bit and eventually, snatch the victory.

The contenders

AS Roma

It is just a matter of goal difference, which separates Roma, Milan and Juventus. The big 3 can easily switch places in a blink of an eye.

Roma’s current match against Cagliari is a significant one since it will determine if they will dominate Serie A soon or remain on the 2nd spot. Thus, the capital club’s main mission is to ensure that they snatch the 3 points to ensure that other contenders will not leave them behind. Should the match against Milan and Juve ended in a draw, Roma will secure the top spot. But if either of the team wins, they will remain in its current rank.

Cagliari experienced a nightmare when they went against Atalanta. The latter clinched a narrow victory whilst Cagliari suffered a major blow.

Cagliari was expecting a win that could have helped them move in the upper part of the Serie A table. Unfortunately, the result of the said match hardly did them a favor and is on the verge of slipping down into the relegation zone if necessary changes and improvements are not met.

Possible head turners

Kostas Manolas was simply unstoppable during the Empoli match. There is no doubt that the squad will be relying on his impressive defending on the pitch.
