Updated: August 28, 2014

Match Date: 31 August 2014 (local time)

Venue: Stadio Renzo Barbera

A sudden change in Sampdoria’s management threatens the club’s survival this season.  With some of its veteran sporting directors heading towards the exit, it looks like Sinisa Mihajlovic will have to perform tons of legwork this season.

The contenders

Winning over Sampdoria is one of the initial challenges that Palermo has to overcome in the top-flight league. The quest may not be easy considering the fact that they are one of the “newbies” in the league.  They need to go through a series of adjustments and changes in order for them to survive.

Aware of the struggles that they have to confront, Palermo did some spending in the transfer market. The squad signed the well-loved Colombus Crew defender, Giancarlo Gonzalez.

Joining Gonzalez in the list is the Ivorian international, Souleymane Bamba.
Should their new signings deliver, there is a strong chance for Palermo to get the better of the online betting favorite, Sampdoria.

Despite lingering in the 12th spot, La Samp’s performance last season was slightly better than what they did before. They were constantly lingering in the relegation zone, but nonetheless, strong enough to hold on to their Serie A status.

Currently, the tables are turned in the Sampdoria camp. The sudden change in the club’s ownership caused some stir within the ranks of its sporting directors. Some of them even left the club. Such issues are seen to have a strong effect on the club’s morale, if not immediately addressed.

But on a positive note, its new owner, Massimo Ferrero is pushing for a qualifying spot in the Europa League. How it will materialize will readily depend on the decisions made by Sinisa Mihajlovic.

Possible head turners

Eder’s impressive form makes him a potential scene-stealer in the match. Expectations are also high on Gonzalez and Bamba as Palermo supporters are confident that these two shall prevent the club from hitting the rock bottom part of the table.

What the odds say

Surprisingly, the newcomer is pegged as the top pick in the sports betting site, 12BET. The club is valued to win with odds amounting to 2.21.
