Serie A Preview: Atalanta vs. Fiorentina

Updated: September 16, 2014

Match Date: 21 September 2014 (local time)

Venue: Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’ Italia

Still winless, Fiorentina badly needs to recover from the results of its first 2 matches. Similar to other squads who have already featured in the top-flight league, the sight of Fiorentina struggling in the bottom part of the table is plain heartbreaking. The squad lost in its first match and just recently, its even steven finish against Genoa was short of being spectacular.

On the other hand, Atalanta currently enjoys lurking into the 5th spot of the table. However, this should not give them the guarantee that they will overcome the attacks of the online betting favorite, Fiorentina as the latter is readily hungry for a win.

The contenders

Marcelo Estigarribia and Richmond Boakye readily salvaged Atalanta from a possible draw against Cagliari last week. The 2-0 lead was more than enough to ensure an automatic victory—something that could have been easily lost due to Andrea Cossu’s penalty during the dying minutes of the match.
With the win, Atalanta currently enjoys the 5th spot of the table and is keen on securing more points to give its rank a boost.

A loss and a draw were results unknown to Fiorentina—well not during the first week of the season. The Viola’s recent defeat was quite unlikely considering the strength and depth of its team form.

The striker Mario Gomez is back on the pitch and the team has Juan Guillermo Cuadrado who could easily help collect points. But much to the disappoint of many, neither of the two delivered.

Possible head turners

After a long absence due to an injury, former Bayern Munich poacher, Mario Gomez is expected to unleash a massive scoring explosion for the club.
