Bologna and Catania

Match Date: 11 May 2014 (local time)

Venue: Stadio Renato Della`Ara

Catania’s season is far from over. The rock bottom club has managed to keep its survival hopes alive after thrashing the capital club, AS Roma with a 4-1 victory. The said win also ended the Serie A giant’s title bid for this season and paved way for Juventus’ 3rd consecutive scudetto. The squad is set to meet the struggling Bologna, which, like them is also desperate for survival.

The Rossazzurri’s story last weekend readily reflected that of the proverbial David and Goliath scenario. Catania, which was the apparent David in the story controlled the match. Mariano Izco’s 2 consecutive goals set their pace, whilst the grand Roma can only respond with a single goal courtesy of its team captain, Francesco Totti. Inspired and probably compelled by the pressure to retain its Serie A status, a goal from Gonzalo Bergessio extended the minnow’s lead, whilst, Pablo Barrientos’ 79th minute goal nailed Roma’s coffin.

Despite its poor overall record, Catania’s renewed confidence can readily inspire them to clinch a victory against Bologna. Indeed, it is a bit difficult not to label them as the online betting  favourite, considering the fact that their current team form is better than the host.

Bologna has not won a single match in its last 6 encounters and thrives through draws whereas Catania has 2 victories to brag. With 2 more matches left before the season ends, indeed, it is still, possible for Catania to remain in Italy’s top-flight league.
