Alberto Bueno - Rayo Vallecano

Without a reliable striker to deliver the needed goals, Rayo Vallecano’s survival this season remains unclear. Pitted against the sports betting favorite, Villarreal, it looks like the club will have to struggle in securing such important victory.

Match Date: 06 January 2014 (local time)
Venue: Campo de Fútbol de Vallecas

Team Form

Rayo Vallecano

Rayo Vallecano’s scoring problems left the club struggling with thirteen (13) points and the possibility of leaving La Liga next season. Rayo is close to hitting the rock bottom part of the table after enduring two (2) consecutive losses from Granada and Athletic Bilbao.

Conceding an average of two (2) goals in seven (7) of their last eight (8) matches, Rayo’s striker drought is evident. It is therefore, not too surprising to see midfielder Roberto Trashorras convince their on loan striker, Leo Baptistao to return. But there is no news about Baptistao’s , interest in going back to Fútbol de Vallecas.

Scoring is not the sole issue of Rayo.  During the aftermath of their clash against Athletic Bilbao, Paco Jemez pointed out that his men “lacked courage, mobility and character to dominate possession.” The team will need to have these characteristics in order to avoid the relegation battle and ensure that they have an easy return to the table’s safe side. With their next match pitted against another strong team, Getafe, The extra points gained against Villarreal shall give them the momentum and rank improvement that they need.

Villarreal

Like Rayo Vallecano, Villarreal just suffered from two (2) straight losses. But unlike their upcoming opponent, they have two (2) victories and draws to brag about.

Winning against Rayo should be easy for them, yet, they cannot afford to be too complacent as the match also plays an integral role in their campaign.

After Rayo, Villarreal’s next match is pitted against Real Sociedad, which happens to be one of the strongest clubs in the league. Securing three  (3) points against Rayo gives them an extra boost to avoid slipping in the mid table, just in case the confrontation against La Real ended in their defeat.

Football betting tip:  Villarreal

Evidently, this will be an easy feat for Villarreal and so far, the best that Rayo Vallecano can achieve is a draw.
