Match Date: 27 September 2014 (local time)

Venue: Stamford Bridge

Chelsea’s love affair with Frank Lampard ended when the latter scored the equalizer in a down the wire match that could have generated 3 points for the Blues. Fortunately, the stalemate did little damage to the squad’s position in the Premier League.

Yet, Chelsea’s concerns are far from over. The club shall face a determined Aston Villa, which is keen on seeking its redemption after having a taste of Arsenal’s bitter revenge.

The contenders

It was already the 71st minute of the match when Chelsea nailed its first goal courtesy of the German international Andre Schurrle. With the way things went by, neither Chelsea nor Manchester City wanted to wave the white flag. The defensive tactics of both squads were simply superb and neither the talismanic Diego Costa nor Didier Drogba found their way to the net.

However, considering that City bears the pressure of having a very limited time, Schurrle’s goal was already perceived as the match’s winning goal, until a reliable Frank Lampard scored the equalizer 5 minutes before the final whistle.

A certain air of emotion filled Etihad since Lampard spent more than a decade wearing the Blues’ shirt. Yet, as Jose Mourinho explained, Lampard simply exhibited class and professionalism at its finest.

Aston Villa

Aston Villa just dropped to the 3rd spot of the Premier League table when Arsenal thrashed them with a 3-0 victory last weekend.

The club has been showing impressive performances since the season started, including the upset against the online betting favorite, Liverpool. Unfortunately, the Gunners did not forget its controversial loss against the Villans last season and returned the favor against their opponent.

Possible head turners

It is highly possible for Costa to steal the limelight again and with Eden Hazard’s playmaking antics, Chelsea can become readily own the match.
