Premier League Preview: Aston Villa vs. Newcastle United

Updated: August 19, 2014

Match Date: 23 August 2014 (local time)

Venue: Villa Park

Similar to what they accomplished last season, Aston Villa started strong, snatching a victory against an equally aggressive Stoke.

On the other hand, it was a different story for Newcastle United, which had to the strength of the defending champion, Manchester City. Despite the defeat, the squad is taking all the positives from the unfortunate event. But the bigger question is how long can they last against the empowered Villans.

The contenders

Aston Villa

It seemed that Aston Villa has already found the perfect solution for the surmounting defence problems that have been plaguing them. The triumvirate of the Dutch international, Ron Vlaar, Alan Hutton and Aly Cissokho formed a seemingly impenetrable defence, which prevented Stoke’s scoring attempts. Moreover, it cannot be denied that the vast experience of these outstanding men was crucial in orchestrating the victory.
With their next match scheduled in Villa Park, it is hard to imagine Aston Villa losing in this battle.

Newcastle United

Alan Pardew and his men had their first taste of defeat into the hands of Manchester City. Yet, as mentioned, this did not prevent Pardew from recognizing the efforts of his club. The head honcho explained that his players were outstanding during the match and that there is nothing to be ashamed of when experiencing defeat in the hands of an excellent club. He specifically pointed out to the impressive performance of their newly acquired midfielder, Remy Cabella, who was spectacular in his scoring attempts.

Possible head turners

Expect the trio of Vlaar, Hutton and Cissokho to form another strong defence wall that will aid in the squad’s scoring attempts. But it is not going to be easy as Cabella will more likely to think of ways to destroy the said defence.
