Tennis Events in London Olympics Met Fascinating Conclusions

LONDON – Exhilaration enveloped All England Club in Wimbledon as tennis events in the 2012 London Olympic Games concluded in captivating fashion.

USA topped the Olympic tennis gold medal charts, capturing top titles in women’s singles, men’s doubles and women’s doubles events. Serena Williams got her third Olympic gold medal in her career by defeating Russian star Maria Sharapova 6-0 6-1. She continued to win another gold medal with her sister Venus in women’s doubles. The siblings triumphed 6-4 6-4 against Czech pair Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka.

American brothers Mike and Bob Bryan bagged gold medals in men’s doubles against French duo Michael Llodra and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga  6-4 7-6 (7/2).

Host Great Britain secured a fantastic gold medal win in men’s singles through world number 4 Andy Murray. The British smasher avenged his Wimbledon Championships loss by overpowering Swiss rival, world number one and Career Grand Slam achiever Roger Federer 6-2 6-1 6-4.

Azarenka redressed her bronze medal win by winning gold in mixed doubles with partner Max Mirnyi. The Belarusian duo denied men’s singles gold medallist Murray of winning a second gold with Laura Robson, beating the British duo 2-6 6-3 10-8.
