Paris Saint Germain and Olympique de Marseille both suffered from frustrating results this week. PSG has to go for a draw, while Marseille endures consecutive losses. As both clubs are used to being on top of France’s top-flight league, expect the two to have their revenge on their pitch. Yet, do not disregard their opponents, which, like them will be fighting tooth and nail to secure another set of victory.

Paris Saint Germain vs. Lorient Match Preview

Match Date: 01 November 2013 (local time)

Venue: Parc des Princes

Team Form

Paris Saint Germain

After a 5-goal thrashing of Anderlecht, Paris Saint Germain settled for a draw during the match against Saint Etienne. It was their 4th this season and so far, such performance is best described as satisfactory.

It was a come from behind rally and while it is true that a draw is better than a defeat, Laurent Blanc was not impressed with his squad’s performance, stating that their poor defence almost lead to a loss. Fortunately, Edinson Cavani secured a goal on the 68th and Blaise Matuidi nailed a late equalizer.

Against Lorient, expect PSG to pull off a much better maneuver on the pitch. However, it remains uncertain if club captain, Thiago Silva and Javier Pastore can make it to the match as the two are still, on their road to recovery.

Lorient

Lorient’s 2-1 victory against Sochaux moved them out of the relegation zone. Yet, this does not mean that they are already safe from the dreaded area.

The club’s upcoming match is pitted against Paris Saint Germain and unless, they can imbibe some of Saint Etienne’s determination, they can probably force a draw. However, this is less likely to happen as PSG are keen on keeping their spot at the zenith of the Ligue 1 table.

Football betting tip: Paris Saint Germain 3-1 Lorient

Having conceded 2 goals, PSG will most likely take the opportunity to fire more goals and therefore, increase their lead against all other clubs.

Stade Rennes vs. Marseille

Match Date: 02 November 2013 (local time)

Venue: Stade dele Route-de-Lorient

Team Form

Stade Rennes

A big victory over Toulousse is more than enough to inspire Stade Rennes when they meet Olympique de Marseille.

Just recently, the Red and Blacks had one of their biggest victories this season. The club kept a clean sheet against Toulousse and thrashed them with 5 big goals. As a result, the triumph propelled the squad’s rank to the 9th spot of Ligue 1. The said victory was their 4th and Philippe Montanier has no other plans but to continue their strong performance.

Marseille

Elie Baup continues to have the support of Marseille president Labrune Vincent despite suffering its 3rd consecutive loss.
Amidst the news of managers being fired every now and then, Baup will continue to serve his post as Vincent remains positive of the club’s current form. Vincent stressed that the club has been showing improvements, most especially in their offensive side and that the whole staff shall work together in finding better solutions.

Lucas, Florian Thauvin

Just recently, a late header by Prince Oniangue stole the limelight from the host and ended the match in a 3-2 victory in favor of Reims. Back in the Champions League, Marseille has yet to make a lasting impression as it also suffered a 2-1 defeat against Napoli.

The losses in both the Champions and domestic league have been raising the red flags in Marseille’s camp. After finishing as runners up last season, the club now lingers in the 6th spot and was even outranked by the newly promoted and big spender, AS Monaco.

Football betting tip: Stade Rennes 2-2 Marseille

Despite the fact that Marseille ranks better than Rennes, this does not exclude the reality that Marseille has been having  a hard time clinching a victory. Although, Stade Rennes are also experiencing the same difficulty, their magnificent win over Toulouse, proves that currently, they have the better form.
