Updated: October 22, 2013

Gus Poyet shall have his baptism of fire as he prepares the relegated Sunderland for the War-Tuyne derby.

Meanwhile, Andre Villas Boas and the rest of his men are keen on making it on top of the Premier League, proving that Gareth Bale’s absence hardly affected the club’s determination to win.

Sunderland vs. Newcastle United Match Preview

Match Date: 27 October 2013 (local time)

Venue: Stadium of Light

Team Form

Team captain, John O’Shea made a rallying call to all his team mates to “toughen up” in the upcoming derby against Newcastle United.

Without securing a single win this season, Sunderland currently sits at the bottom of the relegation pit and is in danger of falling out of the Premier League.  O’ Shea mentioned that the club’s mental preparation is one of the key factors that will help them to secure a victory.

O’Shea’s belief is directly aligned with the club’s new manager, Guy Poyet. Poyet perceives the upcoming match as a catalyst for change and that winning needs a preparation both physically and mentally. His abrupt entry was prompted by the club’s disappointing 4-0 loss against Swansea.

Poyet also hinted an impending change in the club’s starting XI.

Newcastle United

Earning plaudits after forcing Liverpool to settle for a draw, the Magpies shift their focus to the Wear-Tyne derby.

Despite Liverpool’s strength, the Reds struggled to bring down the pressure and aggressiveness inflicted unto them. As a matter of fact, it could have been the Magpies’ match if not for Daniel Sturridge’s late rally. This kind of intensity is what Alan Pardew’s squad wants to bring during the intercity clash.

Yohan Cabaye will definitely boost the club’s attacking options and at the same time deliver set pieces for more scoring opportunities. On the other hand, Mike Williamson is expected to strengthen the defence.

Unfortunately, team captain, Fabricio Coloccini will have to miss the derby due to an injury. Coloccini damaged his groin while performing an international duty for Argentina.

Football betting tip: Sunderland 0-2 Newcastle United

Sunderland’s determination to win is worthy of praise. But they need to execute their vision on the pitch. Currently, there is still a slim chance for them to gain their first victory. The seemingly visionary Poyet requires more time before the whole team can blend in. As for the Magpies’ case, Coloccini’s absence might have some effect on the match. Yet, considering the fact that they have a better form than Sunderland, gives them the outright advantage in the encounter.

Tottenham vs. Hull Match Preview

Match Date: 26 October 2013 (local time)

Venue: White Hart Lane

Team Form

After bouncing back to the league’s top 5, Andre Villas Boas and the rest of his men aim to leapfrog to one of the top 3 spots of the competition.

Andros Townsend, Aston Villa v Tottenham

Despite the disappointing loss against West Ham United, the Spurs took their revenge via keeping a clean sheet and scoring 2 goals during the Aston Villa encounter. Moving forward, the club seeks to secure another victory before they face a fierce match against Chelsea.

Boas urged Andros Townsend to go for more improvements. The young player scored the first goal of the match—an incident, which Boas believed to be instrumental in setting the club’s pace.

A more intense sense of optimism can be felt in the Spurs’ camp with the news of Danny Rose’s fast recovery. There is a high possibility for Rose to go back in the pitch during the Hull encounter. Etienne Capoue is also expected to return. However, a cloud of doubt continues to loom over Younes Kaboul whose contract is about to expire. Kaboul must prove that he is physically fit first before he signs another contract from the Spurs.

Yannick Sagbo swore to score yet another set of goals for the Tigers as they face the high-spirited Tottenham Spurs.

Sagbo’s scored the first and only goal of Hull City during the encounter against Everton. Although, it established the pace and added momentum, Everton’s ate from behind the rally earned them the victory. But determined to clinch more victories for the club, the player made a promise to add more points. Somehow, this can be seen as his way of making up for his one month absence. It can be remembered that Sagbo received a red card after attempting a head butt in Norwich.

On the other hand, the Hull City’s manager, Steve Bruce pointed his fingers to the referee’s lapse of judgment during the Everton match, stating that it is one of the causes behind their defeat. Bruce questioned the yellow card shown to Gareth Barry and believed that it could have been a red card.

Football betting tip: Tottenham 3-1 Hull

With the opportunity to be one of the league’s sacred cows and a possible participation in the Champions League next season, expect Andre Villa Boas and the rest of the Spurs to give Hull City a hard tackle on the pitch.
