Match Previews: English Premier League (Week 9)

Updated: October 22, 2013

Injuries are fast becoming a worry for Manchester City as their key players shall be missing their crucial match against Chelsea. As for Jose Mourinho, this can be their awaited chance to topple Premier League leader, Arsenal.

Meanwhile, Swansea’s Michael Laudrup will prove why his efforts at Swansea make him a hot target of Inter Milan.

Swansea vs. West Ham United Match Preview

Match Date: 27 October 2013 (local time)

Venue: Liberty Stadium

Team Form

Fueled by the vision to make a strong finish this season, Michael Laudrup is not dropping every winning opportunity that comes along the way.

The Swans are still on a high after clinching their 3rd victory against Sunderland. It was far from being an ordinary win. The club readily capitalized on their opponent’s mistakes, kept a clean sheet and scored 4 big goals. Two of them came from Jonathan de Guzman and a converted penalty from Wilfried Bony. The other 2 goals was a result of an own goal by Sunderland’s Philip Bardsley and Steven Fletcher.

Pitted against West Ham United, Swansea might need to make some adjustments as Ben Davies’ ankle injury forces him to be sidelined for at least 2 matches.

West Ham United

West Ham United suffered greatly from Manuel Pellgerini’s brilliant reverse psychology act. Manchester City’s head honcho lied when he told his boys that Manchester United won over Southampton. This resulted to one heck of pure motivation that helped City scored 3 goals and forced West Ham to be contented with just a single goal.

Apparently, the result of their previous match did not excite Sam Allarcyde. It was their 4th loss in the season. They have only won twice and without the 2 draws, the club does not know where else they could get the added points.

Nevertheless, if there is something that will probably inspire the Hammers and their supporters, this is the return of Andy Carroll who has been showing some great improvements. Carroll is expected to be seen action on the pitch during the Swansea encounter.

Football betting tip: Swansea 2-1 West Ham United

Michel Laudrup is not the type of guy who easily throws in the white towel. Swansea’s head honcho will definitely seize the opportunity to score and add more points. Given this aspect at hand, Swansea manifests the higher possibility of securing a victory.

Chelsea vs. Manchester City Match Preview

Match Date: 27 October 2013 (local time)

Venue: Stamford Bridge

Team Form

José Mourinho proved all of his naysayers wring as Chelsea currently sits on the 2nd spot of the Premier League table.
A convincing win against Cardiff prompted many to conclude or affirm their belief that the Blues are one of the strong title contenders this season. Although the predictions are bit premature, Chelsea’s current form speaks of the big threat that they pose among many of its opponents.

Winning all of its 5 of its last 8 matches, securing 2 draws and with just a single loss, there is no doubt that Mourinho’s confidence (arrogance for some) has merits and fairly justifiable.

The Premier League is not the only territory where Chelsea’s presence is felt. Even in the Champions League, the mere presence of the Blues has been sending threats to their upcoming opponents.
Despite the controversies, issues and dilemma, what makes its players blend in and work like a well-oiled machine is their innate instinct to win.

Juan Mata, after spending some time in the bench and having a difficult time in Mourinho’s starting XI acknowledged that his current form has never been this better. On the other hand, Kevin De Bruyne wants to follow Mata’s footsteps as he is also determined to fight for his place on the starting XI. Thus, this means giving Mourinho tons of clinical finishes and high conversion rate. Should Bruyne’s time to shine moment arrives, Chelsea’s force is closed to being invincible.

Other than Mata and hopefully, Bruyne, another player who adds more power to Chelsea is John Terry. The team captain will be back on the pitch soon after recovering from an injury. But this is not the case for Ashley Cole. Cole will not be included in the Schalke lineup to avoid getting further injuries. Should he recover immediately from his physical concerns, his presence during the Manchester City match, will be crucial.

Manchester City
Manuel Pellegrini will need another reverse psychological act to motivate City to carry them through the Champions League and the awaited battle in Stamford Bridge.

Pellegrini’s little lie inspired City to create more goals and clinch the victory over West Ham United. And perhaps the brilliant coach needs to resort to another of those stunt to motivate the club as a number of City’s key players are injured and will most likely miss not only the Champions League match, but also the one against Chelsea.

First on the list is team captain Vincent Kompany. Once again, the club’s formidable leader was hit by a groin injury. It has been recurring for quite some time now and has been preventing the player from having a steady appearance.

Martin Demichelis also remains unfit for the 2 crucial battles. The latter’s knees are still, on its way to recovery and lastly, Jack Rodwell’s hamstring will make him rest for quite some time on the bench.

Football betting tip: Chelsea 2-1 Manchester City

Given the pedigree of these clubs, it is easy to say that the match shall end in a draw. Unfortunately, the absence of Manchester City’s key players might affect their performance, unless another ounce of Pellegrini’s potion or antidote works. It is for this reason that Chelsea gets the upper hand in the match.
