The Verdict: Lille OSC Outshines FC Lorient

Lille OSC almost made a strong finish last season. The 1-point deficit forbade the club from qualifying in the Europa League, much to the disappointment of many. Moreover, Marvin Martin’s celebrated move seemed a bit overrated as unmet expectations started to sink in.

With a little more than two (2) weeks left before the season begins, René Girard is out on the mission to rebuild his team and he must do it quickly.

On the other hand, Christian Gourcuff faces the same dilemma as that of Girard. FC Lorient landed on the 8th spot last season. Well, not bad, considering how other clubs fared. Unfortunately, striker, Jeremie Aliadiere seems to have problems in the team. Just recently, he  was penalized after refusing to play during a friendly against Loic Fery and evidently, Girard can fully take advantage of such situation and turn the odds into his favor.

Indeed, it is true that time is almost running out for Lille. However, finding a replacement is an easier issue to address than a player, who stays in the team, but hardly perform on the pitch. Aliadere has no plans of leaving, though. But it caused a big stir on the team.

On the other hand, Girard can readily capitalize on the Lorient ruckus. LOSC had its eyes locked on midfielder, Ibrahima Tandia. Florian Thauvin, one of FIFA’s U-20 heroes is also a LOSC target.

As for Martin’s case, the player starts to live up to the expectations. During the Mons friendly, Martin was nothing short of being spectacular. The renowned midfielder stood out in executing the 4-4-2 and perhaps, this is the only trigger that Martin has been waiting for.

LOSC shall remain a heavy favorite over Lorient. The former proves to be in a much better form upon entering the new season. It is not impossible for the club to have a repeat of an overwhelming victory against Lorient.
