Match Preview: La Liga (Week 15)

By
Updated: December 9, 2013
Real Madrid

Both Real Madrid and Levante shall ensure that they get the upper hand in their upcoming matches. For Levante, it will be their chance to enter the top 10. As for Real Madrid, adding three (3) more points could help them force a triple tie with other online betting favorites,  Atletico Madrid and Barcelona.

Levante vs Elche

Match Date: 13 December 2013 (local time)

Venue: Ciudad de Valencia
Team Form

Levante

Levante was slapped with a double whammy after suffering two (2) consecutive defeats from Recreativo Huelva (Copa del Rey) and Getafe (La Liga).

Winless in four (4) of its last six (6) La Liga matches, Levante’s top brass Joaquin Caparros looks forward to ending their “poor run of results.” The club’s head honcho refused to point his fingers at injuries and stated that other clubs also experience the same dilemma. It can be remembered that during the Getafe encounter, Issam Al Adoua, Papa Babacar Diawara and Hector Rodas were all sidelined because of injuries.

Losing to Getafe prevented Levante from entering La Liga’s top 10. However, perhaps the match against Elche will give them the lift they need for the ranking.

Elche

Although they have a lower rank, Elche can capitalize on their team form to overcome Levante.

Elche has only lost thrice during its last six (6) matches. Two (2) of them ended in a draw and these were against 2 of La Liga’s high performing clubs, Getafe and Athletic Bilbao. The club’s ability to put up against stronger squads, can give them the edge they need.

However, Elche’s last 6 matches against Levante has been unsuccessful. As  a matter of fact, they have only won once during those encounters.

Football betting tip: Levante

Levante’s dominance during their previous clashes gives them the upper hand in this particular match. Adding more strength is the fact they will be playing in their own ground, which gives them the outright advantage over the visitors.

Osasuna vs Real Madrid

Match Date: 14 December 2013 (local time)

Venue: Estadio El Sadar

Team Form

Osasuna

Once again, the Los Rojillos face the possibility of moving closer to the relegation zone. Already on the 16th spot of the La Liga table, the club needs to face and overcome Real Madrid to stay in Spain’s top-flight league.

Osasuna has only won twice during their last 6 matches and the series of unfortunate events prevented them from improving their La Liga rank.

Real Madrid

Gareth Bale’s hat trick and a sure shot from Karim Benzema propelled Real Madrid’s victory against Valladolid. The latter was thrashed with four (4) goals and allowed the Los Blancos to keep a clean sheet against them.

Real Madrid remains a strong title contender this season. They have won five (5) of their last 6 matches. Overall, they have been pretty successful in twenty-nine (29) of their last thirty-one (31) battles in La Liga. It is also important to note that they have been scoring at least four (4) goals during their last three (3) matches.

The battle against Osasuna is crucial to both clubs. Real Madrid needs this to overcome its city rival, Atletico Madrid. The latter has already overshadowed them in the ranking, following the loss in El Clasico.

Football betting tip: Real Madrid

There is no doubt that Real Madrid gets the upper hand in this match. A win against Osasuna shall help them force a triple tie in La Liga’s top spot.

Online betting  favorite, Barcelona, will prove that they are not dependent on Lionel Messi as they face Valencia in Bernabeu. Likewise, Rayo Vallecano will fight tooth and nail to ensure their survival next season.

Rayo Vallecano vs GranadaMatch Date: 14 December 2013 (local time)

Venue: Campo de Fútbol de Vallecas
Team Form

Rayo Vallecano

Rayo Vallecano just came from a scoreless stalemate against Real Betis. But the result hardly helped the club improve their rank in La Liga. To note, Rayo Vallecano is on the verge of hitting the relegation arena again. What is even worse is that they have to face Granada soon.

Rayo Vallecano’s not so impressive form witnessed them lose five (5) of their last six (6) home matches in the league. Moreover, their performance has not been very successful both during the half and full time. Adding more problems is the series of injuries suffered by its players. Seba Fernandez is expected to be sidelined for six (6) months. Likewise, Perea shall not be seeing any action until December ends. The same thing holds true for Perea and Rodri.

Granada

Granada just suffered a heavy thrashing from the league leader, Barcelona. The club had to endure a 4-0 loss while they struggle to enter the top 10 of the table. Such loss was immediately followed by the 2-1 defeat to Sevilla and therefore, prevented them from moving a notch higher in the league.

Granada’s current team form presents an equal distribution of wins and losses. However, they cannot afford to be contented with what they had accomplished. As the competition gets tougher, the clamor in the mid table continues to increase as each club wants to clinch a secure spot next season.

There is no doubt that Granada has the edge in this encounter despite playing in foreign ground. So far, they are one of those clubs that have an outstanding away performance. Their away record also presents a balance and equally distributed number of victories, defeats and draws.

Football betting tip: Granada

Although Rayo Vallecano has won three (3) of their last six (6) matches against Granada, their current form presents a very slim chance of taking the victory.

Barcelona vs Villareal

Match Date: 14 December 2013 (local time)

Venue: Estadio Camp Nou

Team Form

Barcelona

It cannot be denied that Lionel Messi’s absence weakened Barcelona’s attacking options. Against Athletic Bilbao, the club is left with no other option but to throw the white towel.

Barcelona’s current team form is close to being perfect. They have never been defeated in five (5) of their last six (6) matches and still, holds the top spot in La Liga. However, they have been at the center of controversy as they began to struggle (slightly) without Messi. Once again, the over dependence issue cropped out and it is hard to prevent such criticisms knowing that the club’s alternative attacking options have not been performing well.

Neymar da Silva

Villareal

Technically speaking Villareal’s form is not very far from Barcelona. They are also undefeated in five (5) of their last six (6) matches. However two (2) of those last 5 encounters ended in a draw, while Barcelona has won all of them.

The limited number of points gained from stalemates, compared to actual wins, make a huge difference in the rank of both clubs.

Villareal has never won against Barcelona in all of their previous encounters. Their upcoming match provides them with an opportunity to steal the spotlight as Messi is expected to be sidelined until next year.

Football betting tip: Barcelona

Barcelona has won twenty-two (22) of their last home matches in the league. With such record and perhaps even without Messi, it is evident that the club remains as La Liga’s toughest team to beat.

Getafe’s better rank makes them an automatic sports betting favorite over Malaga. On the other hand, Espanyol’s poor form makes them a better and more competitive against UD Almeria.
Malaga vs Getafe

Match Date: 14 December 2013 (local time)

Venue: Estadio La Rosaleda

Team Form

Malaga

Malaga’s draw against Villareal hardly improved their rank in La Liga. As a matter of fact, they even slumped into the 15th spot as other squads won and overpowered them in the ranking.

Currently, Malaga has won just once in their last six (6) matches. Their recent performance also saw them concede at least two (2) goals in their last three (3) encounters at home. Due to this, the club’s winning chances against Getafe are very slim.

Getafe

Pedro Leon’s last minute shot helped Getafe escape an impending loss or a scoreless stalemate against Levante. Other than gaining three (3) extra points, the club has also successfully improved their rank and get redemption from a 7-0 thrashing they experienced from Atletico Madrid.

 Getafe

Getafe’s current form is still short of being impressive. They have only won twice in their last six (6) matches. Well, they scored a draw against Elche, but it seemed like the club has a hard time going against stronger squads such as Atletico Madrid and Athletic Bilbao. While occupying the 7th spot of the table is something to be proud of, the season is still, very long and not until this season ends and they are able to retain the same spot or even higher, can they say that their form is worthy of merit and recognition.

Football betting tip: Getafe

Almeria vs Espanyol

Match Date: 15 December 2013 (local time)

Venue: Estadio Mediterraneo
Team Form

Almeria

After three (3) consecutive wins, Almeria fell into Celta Vigo’s hands, thus, marking their second defeat in a row.

Thanks to Suso, Almeria has somehow prevented Celta Vigo from keeping a clean sheet against them. Setting aside the idea of experiencing another defeat, what made the match even more disappointing was the fact that Almeria’s previous victories were not sustained. They have won three (3) of their last five (5) matches and their most recent loss, added a slap into their progress.

Once again, Almeria is back into the relegation zone. They are left with no other option but to secure a victory against Espanyol.

Espanyol

Espanyol’s loss to La Real marked their 4th loss in their last six (6) matches. Although included in La Liga’s top 10, the loss reflects their poor form, which is in dire need of improvement.
Espanyol has only won once in its last 6 encounters. Evidently, this form is weaker compared to that of Almeria, which was able to secure at least 3 victories.  Even in their away form, it seemed that Espanyol is having problems in taking the edge against Almeria. Both of them have lost four (4) of their last 6 away matches. This sounds good news to Almeria, which has been struggling this season. But for Espanyol, it manifests a negative impression.

Football betting tip: Draw

Expect a down the wire match from both clubs as the encounter plays a significant role to their future. As for Almeria, this could be their way of getting out of the relegation zone. On the other hand, this could be Espanyol’s chance of improving their rank in the league.

Real Sociedad and Sevilla shall be two of the most talked about online betting favorites in this gaming week. La Real will have a comfortable win against the relegated Real Betis whilst Sevilla’s strong home form is enough to help them survive Athletic Bilbao’s attacks.

Real Sociedad vs Real Betis

Match Date: 15 December 2013 (local time)

Venue: Estadio Anoeta
Team Form

Real Sociedad

La Real is off to a more comfortable battle as they host Real Betis this weekend.

Real Sociedad brag an impressive form following the thrashing they had in the hands of Real Madrid. To note, the defeat to Los Blancos was their only loss during their last six (6) matches. They are currently ranked 6th in the La Liga table and has been successful in twenty  (20) of their last twenty-one (21) matches performed at Estadio Anoeta. This is despite their poor performance in the Champions League.

 Real Sociedad

Real Betis

Real Betis has been struggling throughout the start of this season. They have been at the rock bottom part of the league and has been winless during its last six (6) matches. Although the season is far from being over, it looks like Real Betis shall have a hard time surviving the clashes of this season.

On a positive note, they still have the chance to make it in La Liga this season. But this meant, minimizing their losses and exploiting more strategies in the pitch.

Football betting tip: Real Sociedad

Sevilla vs Athletic Bilbao

Match Date: 15 December 2013 (local time)

Venue: Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan

Team Form

Sevilla

Evidently, Sevilla is back to its winning ways. Coming off a 2-consecutive loss, the club has already clinched its 3rd straight victory during their match against Granada. The win also enabled the club to secure more point and therefore, ensured the 8th spot of the table.

Sevilla’s rank is not the sole determinant of their strong form. A closer look into the table shows that they average on at least two (2) goals in seven (7) of their last eight (8) matches. This is also supported by the fact that nine (9) of their last ten (10) battle triggered more than 2.5 goals. However, they cannot be too complacent as Athletic Bilbao might just steal their glorious moment at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

Athletic Bilbao

All eyes are on Athletic Bilbao after snatching a narrow 1-0 victory against the seemingly invincible, Barcelona. Iker Muniain nailed the winning shot and ended aspirations of settling for a draw.

The above-mentioned victory did not only gain admiration and recognition. It also catapulted the club’s rank into the 4th spot and a possible entry into the Champions League next season. Yet, Athletic Bilbao cannot rest on their laurels as their winning streak is in danger of ending soon.

Their upcoming match foresees an encounter against Sevilla, which is known for their strong form at home. This presents a big problem as Athletic Bilbao’s away form slowly retrogrades. Four (4) of their last 6 away matches ended in their defeat and unless they man on the pitch during the Sevilla battle, they are up for a major upset.

Football betting tip: Sevilla
Needless to say, Sevilla shall capitalize on their home court advantage. Athletic Bilbao, on the other hand, will have to struggle hard unless they make some improvements to rectify the problems embedded in their away performance.

Celta Vigo and Atletico Madrid take the role of  online betting favorites as they go about their respective matches this weekend. Atletico Madrid, to be more specific, shall not let the opportunity of overtaking Barcelona slip.
Atletico Madrid vs Valencia

Match Date: 15 December 2013 (local time)

Venue: Vicente Calderon
Team Form

Atletico Madrid

There is no stopping Diego Simeone and his men in strengthening their campaign this season. The club continues their winning streak in the league as they fired two (2) goals and kept a clean sheet against Elche last weekend.

Atletico madrid - copa del rey

Indeed, Simeone has already destroyed the long time La Liga myth—that only Real Madrid and Barcelona can be contenders for the coveted silverware. But with his take over, Atletico Madrid has finally entered into the picture and has been drawn into the habit of clinching victories not only in La Liga, but also in the Champions League and just recently in Copa del Rey.

So far, Atletico Madrid has already kept three (3) clean sheets in its last three (3) encounters at Vicente Calderon. They were also successful in fourteen (14) of their sixteen (16) last matches in the league and have already overtaken Real Madrid in the ranking.

Valencia

Valencia’s current form may not be enough to clinch a needed victory in their upcoming match. Pitted against Atletico Madrid, the club faces the risk of falling out of the league’s top 10.

On a closer look, Valencia has only won twice in its last six (6) matches. Three (3) of them ended in a defeat and the other is a draw. Apparently, this may fall short when compared to Simeone’s unbeaten record. Giving Valencia more problems is the fact that they will be facing Atletico Madrid at Vicente Calederon where they are in their best form.

Football betting tip: Atletico Madrid

There is no point to stopping Atletico Madrid now. The club shall willingly take risk and grab every opportunity to clinch every possible victory that comes along their way.

Real Valladolid vs Celta Vigo

Match Date: 16 December 2013 (local time)

Venue: Estadio Jose Zorilla

Team Form

Real Valladolid

Already in the relegation zone, the Pucelas have to go through another defeat. This time around, it was at the hands of Real Madrid. Real Valladolid suffered a major thrashing when they failed to score and conceded four (4) goals to Los Blancos’ Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema.

Valladolid is on the verge of hitting the rock bottom part of La Liga. They have not secured another victory since they thrashed Rayo Vallecano with a 3-0 score. The rest of their previous encounter ended in either a draw or a disappointing defeat. To sum it all up, Real Valladolid has been unsuccessful in eleven (11) of their last twelve (12) matches in the league.

Celta Vigo

Celta Vigo’s current team form fares better than that of Valladolid. Just recently, it clinched another set of victory when they thrashed the brave Almeria and ended the match with a 3-1 win in their favor.
Overall, Celta Vigo has a balanced share of victories and defeats in its last six (6) matches. This gives them the edge, but since they will be playing in a different territory, it seemed like their preparation, not their rank, will determine their winning chances against Real Valladolid.

Football betting tip: Celta Vigo

Real Valladolid has only won once against Celta Vigo during their last six (6) matches, Needless to say, the latter gets the upper hand in this particular encounter.
