The Verdict: L’OM Upsets Guingamp’s Ligue 1 Debut

Entering Ligue 1 this season, Guingamp shall have its baptism of fire as it goes against the league’s next best team, Olympique de Marseille.

Last season Jocelyn Gourvennec and the rest of his men displayed a top-notched performance that helped them earn the Ligue 1 promotion. But can they sustain their momentum? Do they have enough experience to beat L’OM?

There is no doubt that Guingamp may win over L’OM, but not anytime soon. Guingamp may still need to adjust in the pitch and familiarize itself. It has been a while since they were promoted. The last time the squad found itself on Ligue 1 was thirteen (13) years ago. This is in stark contrast to L’OM, which has been there for more than a decade.

Guingamps’ familiarization, strategy creation and development may take time.

As for L’OM’s side, expect the squad to be fiercer than ever. Its absence in the last UEFA Champions League tournament was a big blow to Elie Baup and his squad. Certainly, the team shall take every available opportunity to strengthen its campaign in both Ligue 1 and the Champions League. Its encounter against Guingamp barely bothers the team.

Yet, despite of this seemingly easy battle, supporters can still, expect L’OM to devise scoring opportunities. Supporters can also look forward to how L’OM shall take full control of the match.

Nevertheless, far more than how L’OM shows its dominance on the pitch, perhaps what is more important to anticipate is how it will improve its conversion. This has been one of its main issues last season and they definitely need to work on it.

L’OM stands as heavy favorites in the match, while Asian handicaps are handed over to Guingamp.
