UEFA Champions League: FC København vs. Juventus

Updated: September 11, 2013

FC København will push its luck to advance in the Champions League. But first, they need to survive Juventus, which has never been defeated in match day one of their Champions League stint. Football betting tips pick Juve as heavy favorites of the match.

FC København

The 2-year wait is over. Once again, FCK is back in the Champions League. The club shall be competing with other football giants such as Real Madrid, Galatasaray and their upcoming opponent, Juventus.

Considered as underdogs in their group, this will be their 3rd appearance in the tournament. Their first stint happened during the 2006/07 season where they reached the group stage. Unfortunately, they failed to advance. Their next appearance took place in 2010/11 where a considerable improvement in their performance has been witnessed.

After defeating FC Rubin Kazan, Panathinaikos and forcing a draw against Barcelona, they clinched the 2nd spot in the group. However, Chelsea trampled over them when they lost their home match and ended in a draw during the 2nd leg.

Pitted against Juventus this year, the club will have yet another chance to beat the Italians. Several years had already passed when they last have their taste of victory against the Italian camp and this was against Lazio in 2001/02 during the 3rd qualifying round.

Juve is a familiar face in the tournament. Their experience as well as their impressive resume makes them one of FCK’s toughest opponents.

During their last 13 appearances in the tournament, Juve is undefeated. Against FCK, this will be the first time that the two clubs will meet.

However, the Biaconeris cannot be afford to be overconfident although they are chosen as heavy favorites of the match. Olof Mellberg was a former Biaconeri member and his familiarity of Juve’s playing style is a potent source of a major upset. Moreover, the club shall be missing the services of defender Martin Caceres.

Caceres sustained a knee injury while playing for Uruguay. The young player needs to go under surgery, thus forcing him to be sidelined for at least 40 days.

The verdict: Juventus scores match day one victory

Juventus is having a repeat of their Champions League stint this season. For the second time around, they are placed in the same group that they were once in last tournament and definitely, surviving the group is the only thing that they have in mind.

Winning against FCK is one of Juve’s priorities, yet, the match will less likely pressure them –not in the same degree as with Real Madrid and Galatasaray.

Between the two, indeed, it is FCK, which will more likely go the extra mile to snatch a win. The latter needs to be wary of the deadly Argentine striker, Carlos Tevez, who can fire goals any moment.
