Updated: August 29, 2013

Match Date: 01 September 2013 (local time)

Venue: Commerz Bank Arena

Dortmund’s Ilkay Gundogan is sidelined for the match against Frankfurt and so is Frankfurt’s Sebastian Jung. With both key players failing to make it in the pitch, Dortmund’s camp is the one, which will most likely benefit from this set-up.

Borussia Dortmund

Amidst its unstoppable success, an injury issue slapped the Borussians. Midfielder Ilkay Gundogan suffers from a “spinal pain” that requires him to be out of the pitch for at least 4 weeks.
Gundogan has been experiencing such pain before. However, an encounter with Paraguay, aggravated his situation. Fortunately, the situation is now “under control” and contrary to earlier reports, a surgery is no longer required. Nevertheless, this means that Gundogan will miss the match against Frankfurt.

Hailed as one of the most improved players last season, Gundogan is known for his keen passing abilities, superb ball handling and an 80% tackle success rate. He is also one of Dortmund’s key figures during the UEFA Champions League match against Bayern.
The Borussians currently enjoy 3 straight wins. Although they are indeed, a strong team, questions on how they will fare without the midfielder, begin to arise.

Eintracht Frankfurt

Similar to Dortmund, one of the Eagles’ players are also sidelined in the upcoming match. The young player is nursing a strained muscle that was formerly thought as an adductor injury.

Similar to Gundogan, Sebastian Jung is also recognized as one of the club’s backbones, most especially in the defensive area. His ability to intercept and capitalize from the individual errors of their opponents created good results for the club.

Reports said that Jung will miss the match against Dortmund. Definitely, his absence is a major blow to the club, knowing that they have lost two of their last three matches.

Online bookie tip: Dortmund dominates Bundesliga table

The services of both Gundogan and Jung will be definitely missed during the match. However, the Eagles are the ones who will most likely be affected by injury issues.
The club has yet to recover from a Hertha Berlin and Bayern’s thrashing. Although they won against Braunschweig, their current performance barely speaks of the squad that made a strong finish last season. Without Jung, Armin Veh and his men have no choice but to step up their defence. They cannot slack around knowing that Dortmund’s Aubameyang threatens to score another hattrick.
