Match Date: 12 February 2014 (local time)

Venue: Etihad Stadium

Team Form

Manchester City

Despite the scoreless draw against Norwich, Manchester City’s head honcho, Manuel Pellegrini stressed that plenty of points are still, “up for grabs” and all they have to do is win as many as they can to ensure their bid on the coveted silverware.

Once again, the frustrated Pellegrini reiterated what he stated at the onset of the season—that top performing clubs will continue to drop points and it is for this reason that Man City’s title run cannot be readily disregarded. Giving them more confidence is the fact that they are just two (2) points behind the current league leader, Chelsea.

When asked if the club was still affected by the Chelsea defeat, Pellegrini stressed that injury problems affected them more than losing to Jose Mourinho’s squad. Injury-related issues have prevented the participation of the club’s key players such as Fernandinho and Sergio Aguero.

With regards to their team form, the squad remains strong, having won four (4) of its last six (6) matches.

Sunderland

A mixture of relief and frustration lingers in Gus Poyet’s side as they surrendered to Hull City in a “difficult afternoon” match.

Poyet cannot help but express his frustration over the red card shown to Wes Brown, which forced them to play with ten (10) men. The club’s head honcho stated that such situation has readily affected their performance as they were force to alter their tactical approach on the pitch.

Nevertheless, he was relieved that the Black Cats no longer need to go against Hull City as his side proved to be vulnerable and weak whenever they engage in a pitch face-off.

Regarding their upcoming match against Manchester City, Poyet is positive that they will pull off a good performance against the league giant.

Sunderland is just a notch away from the relegation zone. In terms of their form, they have won thrice, lost twice and drew once. As they travel to Etihad, the club shall miss the presence of Brown who is banned for two (2) matches.

Prediction: Manchester City

With the silverware at stake, Pellegrini will definitely not miss the chance to score more points and secure the silverware. With Arsenal falling into Liverpool’s hands, expect Manchester City to take advantage of such opportunity.
