Updated: September 22, 2014

Match Date: 23 September 2014 (local time)

Venue: Stade de la Route de Lorient

Rennes is on the verge of seeking revenge after suffering a humiliating thrashing from Marseille. The said loss forced the squad to drop to the 8th spot of the Ligue 1 table, thus, haltering its impending rise in the top-flight league.

However, a determined Toulouse is also eager to improve its rank after forcing a dramatic even steven finish against a newly promoted Caen.
Which of these squads shall rise on top?

The contenders

Stade Rennes

Rennes’ loss epitomizes the old adage that one man’s drink is another man’s poison. As for Rennes’ the defeat was an apparent poison. Throughout their encounter, the squad was unable to respond to Marseille’s relentless attacks. They were forced to swallow a clean sheet and pay the price of individual errors as their attempts to climb to the top was eventually denied by Marseille.

Toulouse had a dramatic stalemate against Caen. The match witnessed a high degree of resilience from both squads. Whenever one of them scored, the other would immediately respond.

Toulouse, however, capitalized on penalties.

Evidently, the club cannot afford to employ a similar technique when they face the online betting  favorite, Rennes. They need to create more  scoring opportunities for them to surmount their opponent.

Possible head turners

Pavlov Nikov readily featured during the even steven finish against Caen. He clinched a point outside the penalty line and should he continue such performance, there is a high possibility for Toulouse to force another upset or another even steven finish.
