Match Date: 24 September 2014 (local time)

Venue: Allianz Riviera

A costly error puts Nice’s top-flight league rank in danger. The squad dropped to the 17th spot after experiencing a heartbreaking defeat in Nantes’ hands. Broken and frustrated, Nice’s determination will be readily tested as they try to outlast an unstoppable Lille.

Lille just came from a scoreless stalemate against Montpellier and unfortunately, such loss prevented them from climbing the Ligue 1 table.

The contenders

During the first 9 minutes of the match, Jordan Amavi scored an own goal. The unfortunate event resulted to giving an early lead to Nantes. It also subjected Amavi into the limelight of blame and frustrations.

Nevertheless, Amavi made a grand comeback when he scored Nice’s first goal on the 70th. But it was already too late for the squad since Nantes’ Itay Shechter already gave his club the winning edge when he hit a goal on the 43rd.

Despite Lille’s relentless attempts to score, Montpellier’s seemingly impenetrable defence forced the squad to settle for a scoreless stalemate. Jonathan Delaplace, Ryan Mendes and Marko Basa had great opportunities to clinch the victory. But as mentioned, none of them were able to convert.

Lille earned a point from the stalemate. Yet, it forced them to drop into the 4th spot of the Ligue 1 table.

Possible head turners

Mendes displayed a stunning performance during the Montpellier face-off. If he remains consistent, indeed, there is a strong chance for Lille, the online betting favorite to overcome Nice in its own territory.
