At the French top-tier league’s curtain raiser, Valenciennes were astoundingly 18 spots higher than Nice. Thanks to a very successful opening, Les Athéniens scored early football betting preference. However, the side’s wheel has since gone flat. Tarnished by a 0-2 defeat in their second stint from Bastia, the side’s streak progressively dwindled, with all of their subsequent matches ending in tragic downfalls. In contrast, Nice—who started their campaign with a dismal 0-4 loss from Lyon—gradually climbed up in the table, rising from a relegation-prone 20th placement in the season’s debut to their current rank at number seven. A match between these teams on September 21 will give them the opportunity to improve their form by a few indentations.

Valenciennes are cramming to boost their ensemble, after Dossevi, da Silva, Bahebeck, and Traore were confirmed to be not appearing in their sixth match. Nice are also plagued with player deficits, with six of their men temporarily sidelined in the tournament. The minuses, however, can be strategically countered with a good plan. Les Athéniens should focus on strengthening their defense and looting their opponents’ opportunity to make scores. Les Aiglons, meanwhile, might want to experiment on testing the abilities of their less used talents. But if that is too risky of an attempt, team boss Claude Puel can instead capitalize on key players like Dario Cvitanich and Valentin Eysseric.

Valenciennes are currently occupying the league’s most dreaded zone, having been unable to repeat their opening success and conceding seven goals to result in a -3 goal difference. Whereas Nice continue to fly with bright colors, thriving in Ligue 1 for five meetings now plus making a wonderful stint in the Champions League a few weeks ago (where they secured a 1-0 win over Cypriot Apollon).

Prediction: For this tourney, Nice will continue a good progress in the rankings while Valenciennes will again be ransacked with another undesirable finish.
