AS Monaco- Week 11

Match Date: 25 October 2014 (local time)

Venue: Parc des Sports

The sports betting favorite, AS Monaco will have to ignore the horrors of its even steven finish in the Champions League to snatch another round of three (3) points when they meet SC  Bastia.

The contenders

AS Monaco

A frustrated AS Monaco endures the disappointment of being forced into a scoreless stalemate by Benfica. By doing so, the club’s seemingly bright future in advancing to the latter stages of the tournament was already doomed.

There is still a possibility for the club to qualify in the next round though, but it has to come out with a stronger and better attacking technique.

In terms of how it fares in the domestic league, the club’s performance has been satisfactory. Just recently, it snatched a win against Evian Thonon Gaillard. This propelled its rank to the 10th spot of the Ligue 1 table. Although, it is a far-flung shot from what they have accomplished last season, it cannot be denied that is still much better than lingering at the rock bottom part of the table.

SC Bastia

Similar to Edinson Cavani’s pitch ejection, Bastia’s derby against Nice was also clouded with controversy. Bastia scored a narrow win in the said clash, but a pitch invasion followed soon after the substitute goalkeeper Jean-Louis Leca unfurled a Corsican flag.

SC Bastia stated that the club will neither accept any form of punishment nor allow Leca to be branded as a provocateur.

At the end of the day, Bastia may have been booed by its opponent but the 3 points, which they clinched catapulted their rank to the 16th spot of the Ligue 1 table.

Possible head turners

Ricardo Carvalho and Joao Moutinho are dangerous forces that SC Bastia should be wary of. The duo could readily help the squad pull off a massive thrashing in the upcoming match.
