Ligue 1 Preview: Marseille vs. Evian Thonon Gaillard

Updated: September 9, 2014

Match Date: 14 September 2014 (local time)

Venue: Parc des Sports, Annecy

Evian Thonon Gaillard is at risk of suffering another loss as they are bound to meet the confident Marseille.

After a scoreless stalemate against Paris Saint Germain (PSG), many are expecting the squad to continuously recover and gain its first 3 points soon. Unfortunately for Evian’s supporters, the club suffered another major defeat. And as bad as it may sound, perhaps the club will need to address relegation issues soon.

The contenders

It will be a bit of a burden for Marseille to worry on their upcoming match, considering the fact that they just thrashed Nice last week. Dmitri Payet scored a double, which sealed the club’s well-deserved victory. But Marseille created more damage when Florian Thauvin and Abdel Barrada both scored to increase the lead to 4.

The superb demolition job, however, will not be possible if not for the its superb defence that forced Nice to lose the ball often.

Evian Thonon Gaillard

Evian suffered another major defeat last week. But this time around, it was into the hands of Toulouse. The latter ended the match with a 1-0 victory and with Evian, enduring its 3rd loss in 4 playing weeks.

Evian currently stands at the rock bottom pit of the table with a point and nothing but a draw to be proud of.

Possible head turners

Marseille was in a scoring high in its previous match and evidently, its set of reliable strikers such as Thauvin has been stepping up to the challenge of bringing more success to the squad. Other than Thauvin and Payet, one may also expect to see more action from Andre-Pierre Gignac and Andre Ayew in the next match.

It looks like Marseille is up for another big win. The squad is the match’s online betting favorite and is valued to win at a profitable odd of 2.25.
