Ligue 1 Preview: Lyon vs. Lorient

Updated: September 22, 2014

Match Date: 24 September 2014 (local time)

Venue: Stade Gerland

It cannot be denied that Lyon’s successful feat against Paris Saint Germain (PSG) left them overwhelmed with a new degree of confidence. Although it did not end with a victory, the stalemate was enough to improve their rank and face a determined Lorient.

Speaking of Lorient, the squad will try to seize the opportunity of clinching  3 important points when they go against Lyon. The visitors dropped out of the top 10 after experiencing a narrow defeat in Reims’ hands.

The contenders

What transpired between Lyon and PSG was the ultimate game of two halves. Edinson Cavani gave the incumbent champion the early head when he converted a cross from Lucas Digne. But just when Lyon and probably, the rest of PSG supporters thought that it was all over, Samuel Umtiti took a right footed shot that left the whole Parc des Princes frustrated and disappointed.

If many found PSG’s draw against Lyon frustrating, the same feeling holds true for Lorient. The latter dominated possession, which meant that they have more scoring opportunities.

Unfortunately, the possession barely worked in their favor. As a matter of fact, it was Reims, which emerged as the victorious side.

Possible head turners

Umtiti was not the only one determined to take the shot during the match against PSG, Alexandre Lacazette was also keen on scoring during the said encounter and should he feature in the upcoming match, there is no doubt that Lyon, the football betting favorite of the match, might clinch the coveted win.
