Ligue 1 Preview: Lille vs. Nantes

Updated: September 9, 2014

Match Date: 14 September 2014 (local time)

Venue: Grand Stade Lille Métropole

Lille lost the opportunity to move higher in the Ligue 1 table when a struggling AS Monaco embarked in a late rally and therefore, forced them to settle for an even steven finish. Although, it was a frustrating result, Lille can still afford to relax a little bit since they are still a part of the top-flight league’s elite.
Currently, the burden of climbing the Ligue 1 table is shouldered by Nantes, which is slowly bouncing back to its winning form.

The contenders

Lille’s Nolan Roux gave the squad an early lead when he converted a corner on the 18th. They enjoyed the advantage for quite some time, but it was not until Dmitar Berbatov burst their bubble on the 61st when the latter scored the equalizer.

Lille has never recovered since then and instead, settled for the stalemate rather than lament on losing three (3) precious points.

Nantes did an impressive recovery from its narrow loss to AS Monaco. Pitted against the high profiled, Marseille, the squad clinched a victory towards the end of the match. Serge Gakpe was the encounter’s hero and savior when he converted a cross from Yacine Bammou.

Possible head turners

Nantes’ Papy Djilobodji will ensure that Nantes will retain the ball to its side during the whole match. However, Nolan Roux will continue to be that aggressive striker that will do anything just to gain the upper hand for Lille.

Lille stands as the match’s online betting favorite, with odds pegged at a profitable 1,75.

Lille 1-0 Nantes.
