Ligue 1 Preview: Guingamp vs. Metz

Updated: September 22, 2014

Match Date: 24 September 2014 (local time)

Venue: Stade du Roudourou

Last week’s thrashing of Bastia proved why Les Grenats deserved to be in France’s top-flight league. Considering the fact that they secured the upper hand against a more veteran squad is a solid testament of Metz’s intention to stay in Ligue 1.

Such performance should serve as a warning to another Ligue 1 veteran, Guingamp. For while it is true that they are the heavy favorite of sports betting sites, its match  last week readily exposed its weakness and areas that need major improvements.

The contenders

Guingamp just dropped into the relegation zone after suffering a narrow defeat to AS Monaco. This is the squad’s 4th loss out of its last 6 matches. So far, the 2 wins that it clinched since the season started were the only thing that kept them from hitting the rock bottom part of the table.

In terms of experience, Guingamp certainly has the edge over Metz. But they need to work a little bit harder since Metz has readily shown that they are far from being a push-over squad.

Metz secured an easy and swift win against Bastia in their previous encounter and the said victory enabled the squad to enter the league’s top 10.

Currently occupying the 9th spot, Metz was undefeated in 4 of its last 6 matches barely shows no signs of slowing down.

Possible head turners

Delivering a crucial assist and still managing to score a goal, Sergei Krivets was a true hero of Metz. He could be dangerous on the pitch and could readily cause an upset against Guingamp.
