Ligue 1 Preview: FC Nantes vs. RC Lens

Updated: August 5, 2014

Match Date: 09 August 2014 (local time)

Venue:  La Beaujoire-Louis Fonteneau

A certified survivor, FC Nantes enters the new season with overflowing confident that it can pull-off a stronger finish. The squad was one of the new faces of Ligue 1 in 2013/2014. Like many of newly promoted clubs, the Canaries’ ability to escape the relegation zone was seen with pessimism.

Speaking of newly promoted squads, FC Nantes’ first match is pitted against a new member of France’s top-flight league, RC Lens.

The contenders

FC Nantes

Filip Djordjevic’s exit leaves Alejandro Bedoya with the (burden) and challenge to score more goals for the club. Next to Djordjevic, he was Nantes’ next leading scorer, amassing a total of eight (8) goals.

Bedoya also featured during the recently concluded World Cup. With the momentum still lingering on, the task should not cause too much trouble for him.

RC Lens

Financial troubles almost prevented Lens from acquiring its Ligue 1 status and playing in a bigger and wider audience. Fortunately, the issue is already resolved and immediately upon hearing such news, Lens’ head honcho, Antonine Kombouare asked his players to “show a dominating attitude” in the pitch.

Lens secured promotion via finishing 2nd in Ligue 2.

Possible head turners and what to expect

It is exciting to see how Lens players will manifest a “dominating attitude” in the match and how Nantes will react to the said occasion.

Nantes is currently more at ease in Ligue 1, whilst Lens has to adjust. Expect the clash to be filled with thrill and anticipation as both clubs try to impress this season.
