Ligue 1 Preview: Bastia vs. Nantes

Updated: September 22, 2014

Match Date: 24 September 2014 (local time)

Venue: Stade Armand Cesari

Claude Makelele’s squad (SC Bastia) just bowed down to the newly promoted Metz last weekend. Les Bleus could only watch as they were easily battered and destroyed by a Ligue 1 newcomer.

Nevertheless, they can use this incident as motivation to seek redemption from their heartbreaking loss. Unfortunately, it will not be easy as the match’s sport betting favorite, Nantes is keen on collecting more points and win more battles.

The contenders

Many thought that Floyd Ayite’s goal on the 42nd will trigger a scoring spree for Les Bleus. However, the result was far from what was expected. It was Bastia’s last goal in the said match and Metz—probably challenged by Bastia’s response, immediately unleashed its scoring hungry players and left Bastia struggling at the bottom part of the table’s top-flight league.

Nantes readily exploited the errors that Nice committed during their match. After Nice’s own goal on the 9th, Itay Schechter ensured the win and the lead when he scored Nantes’ second and winning goal a few minutes before the first-half ended.

Possible head turners

Nantes’ Issa Cissokho was impressive against Nice. The defender ensured that Nantes retained possession, thus, preventing Nice from forcing an even steven finish and a possible upset.

Cissokho cannot afford to be complacent as Bastia will definitely fight tooth and nail to secure its first victory in the season.
