Ligue 1 Match Preview: Stade Rennes vs. AS Monaco

Updated: April 8, 2014
AS Monaco

Match Date: 12 April 2014 (local time)

Venue: Stade dele Route—de-Lorient

AS Monaco will continue to delay the awarding ceremonies for Paris Saint Germain as it strives to collect more points and keep the pressure against the defending champion. Unfortunately for Stade Rennes, there is a high possibility for them to have the first taste of AS Monaco’s last attempt for the silverware.

Les Rouges et Blancs  just had a massive 3-1 victory over Nantes. The win was the club’s crucial response after its short stints of lackluster performances. Prior to the said win, Lille forced them to settle for an even steven finish whilst Evian Thonnon Gaillard overpowered them with a late penalty from Cedric Mongongu.

On the other hand, in the event where Rennes gets the better of them in the upcoming match, AS Monaco has no reasons to be sad. Its strong campaign this season secured them a coveted spot in the next season’s Champions League. Apparently, this battle is more significant to Rennes as this will keep them safe from hitting the rock bottom part of the table.

Rennes, just like AS Monaco is also trying to recover from its shortcomings during the previous matches. Prior to the draw with Bordeaux, Rennes had to endure a 3-match winning streak, which almost triggered its downward spiral. However, the club returned with a vengeance when it clinched 2 consecutive wins courtesy of Marseille and Bastia.

Nevertheless, this does not make Rennes as the match’s online betting favorite. Needless to say, AS Monaco’s overall performance gives them the overt advantage against its upcoming opponent.
