Sochaux and Marseill

Match Date: 29 March 2014 (local time)

Venue: Stade Bonal

Marseille’s narrow defeat to Rennes continued their 4th winless streak. Although they rank high in the table, their lackluster performance gives a reason to doubt their ability in securing an easy breezy win against the minnow, Sochaux.

On a closer look, it seemed that Marseille is still nursing a hangover from their 2-0 defeat to league leader, Paris Saint Germain. The club was unable to bounce back since then and continued with their (losing habit). They surrendered to Nice, settled for a draw against Reims and as mentioned, bowed down to Rennes.

What Marseille showed in its last performances was a total opposite of what Sochaux accomplished.

Compared to their 3 losses, Sochaux is content with 2 defeats. It also boasts a strong performance at home in which it has managed to secure 4 victories as well as clean sheets. Needless to say, such numbers readily show that Sochaux has raised the ante of their every match. It has significantly improved its defence, which could get even better as they struggle to get out of the relegation zone. The squad also shows a high possibility of using their home court advantage to turn the odds into their favor.

While it is true that Sochaux struggles in the 19th spot, it is very much capable of pulling off an upset against the online betting favorite, Marseille.

Prediction: Stalemate

As the season is about to end, the tight competition within the rock bottom part of the league is something that Sochaux will want to avoid. Given this aspect at hand, it is most likely to force a stalemate against their upcoming opponent to secure their survival.
