Match Date: 25 April 2014 (local time)

Venue: La Beaujoire

No matter how slim the chances are, what is more important is that Marseille still has a chance to clinch a spot in the Europa League for the next season. Trailing St. Etienne by 5 points and with a few matches left, an impressive performance is all that Marseille needs.

As for Nantes’ case, the upcoming match also opens a huge opportunity for them. Should they win, they will be entering Ligue 1’s elite top 10. But in order to do that, they must first survive Marseille’s relentless attacks.

Marseille’s performance this season was far from what they have accomplished the last time.

Last season, the club finished on the 2nd spot and even made it to this year’s Champions League. However, it seems that AS Monaco’s entry—the investment that the latter made in buying players, have displaced Marseille from the top-flight league’s top 3. It looked like Marseille and the other clubs were unable to counter Monaco’s unexpected rise.

But Monaco’s influence was not really that big to prevent its opponents from climbing Ligue 1’s table. Marseille and the rest of them also have injury issues to confront and other untoward incidents that forced them to let go of their previous achievements and eventually, make the most of what they have right now.

Meanwhile, to retain its Ligue 1 status is already an achievement to Nantes. Only a few newly promoted clubs were able to shine just like what Nantes did. And as it faces Nantes, it presents the possibility of forcing a draw or gaining the upper hand.

Nantes has a better team form than Marseille. The former has 3 victories to brag compared to Marseille that has managed to win only 2 matches in its last 6 matches.  Expect a down the wire match as these clubs clash and aspire for supremacy and the right to be the match’s online betting favorite.

Prediction:  A draw
