Guingamp and Valenciennes

Match Date: 26 April 2014 (local time)

Venue: Stade Municipal de Roudourou

Valenciennes travels to Stade Municipal de Roudourou in an attempt to salvage its Ligue 1 status against the equally desperate Guingamp.

Valenciennes just had a taste of its 3rd consecutive defeat last weekend. The club suffered a major thrashing from Nantes, which relentlessly slapped them with 6 goals, while the best response it can give was 2 mere goals. Given the fact that it almost hit the rock bottom part of the table, the said defeat slowly destroys any survival hopes that the club has, although, technically, it is still, possible.

Valenciennes has 3 more matches left. These are pitted against Bordeaux, AS Monaco and Toulouse. They need to win all of them if they want to remain in the top-flight league. However, given the strength of its upcoming opponents, Valenciennes chances are indeed, very small. And the former online betting favorite might be forced to leave the spotlight soon.

On the other hand, the newly promoted Guingamp is also struggling for survival. Currently, it is still too early to say that they are safe from the relegation. They are just a notch away from the dreaded zone and petty mistakes may force them to slip downwards. Therefore, they should take heed of being complacent. They have the home court advantage, but this does not guarantee a win. Moreover, their current form is far from being satisfactory.

Guingamp, although they are the heavy favorite has already lost in its last 5 matches and if they are not too careful, the relegation zone is willing to accommodate those who prefer to leave France’s top-flight league.

Prediction:  Guingamp
