Match Date: 23 August 2014 (local time)

Venue: Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán

After a successful season, which ended in winning the Europa League title as well as ensuring another qualification in the said competition, it is evident that Sevilla has no other way to go, but up. Its sole mission this season is to secure a slot in the Champions League and hopefully, become a strong title contender.

Sevilla will have its first match against Valencia, which, like them, aspires for a stronger and better finish.

The contenders

Sevilla FC

Despite losing the UEFA Super Cup to Real Madrid last week, the pre-season clash is more than enough to condition Sevilla in its upcoming match against Valencia.
Sevilla has readily displayed a massive growth and improvement last season. After struggling at the bottom of La Liga’s top 10 during the 2012/2013 tournament, the club climbed to the 5th spot last season. They may have lost the Super Cup, yet, at the very least, they were able to snatch a silverware. This is in stark contrast to other clubs, which are already contented with retaining their top-flight league status.

Valencia

Valencia’s performance last season was a disappointing one. After its Europa League stint in 2012/2013, the club fell to the 9th spot in the La Liga table.

The said drop also forfeited their chance of playing into a major European competition. But they still have the chance to improve and many are waiting for it to take place this season.

Possible head turners

Many will be looking forward to Ever Banega. The midfielder just left Valencia and will be playing for Sevilla in the upcoming match.

What the odds say

It is evident that sports betting sites are rooting for Sevilla to be the encounter’s top pick. In 12BET, Sevilla is valued to win at 2.10.
