La Liga Match Preview: Sevilla vs. Villarreal

Updated: April 28, 2014

Match Date: 04 May 2014 (local time)

Venue: Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan

Both Sevilla and Villarreal look forward to earning redemption after their disappointing losses last weekend. Sevilla bowed down to Athletic Bilbao whilst Villarreal had a taste of Barcelona’s epic win.

It is no secret whey Sevilla’s manager, Unai Emery was filled with regret over the defeat to Athletic Bilbao. The outfit did not only lose 3 points, but also the opportunity to qualify and play in the next season’s Champions League. Prior to the said defeat, Athletic Bilbao’s lead is pegged at a manageable 3 points, but apparently, it doubled. It is still mathematically possible for Sevilla to catch-up. However, Athletic Bilbao has no intentions of opening such opportunity to their rivals.

In as much as Sevilla is disappointed over their loss and is Villarreal. The regret is even more intense as the club literally allowed Barcelona to steal the spotlight.

Villarreal already dominated the first half of the match. However, 2 consecutive own goals enabled Barcelona to equalize, until Lionel Messi scored the deciding goal. Other than the loss, a racist display from one of Villarreal’s fan added more damage to the club’s already injured performance.

Prediction: Sevilla

There is a possibility for the match to end in an even steven finish. However, Sevilla sports a better form. It has won its last 5 home matches and scored an average of 2 goals in 4 of them, whilst Villarreal has not been very successful in 6 of their last 8 matches.

Therefore, without further ado, Sevilla is the match’s online betting favorite.
