Hoffenheim vs. Bayer Leverkusen Preview: Derdiyok Set To Meet Former Club, Bayer

Updated: October 17, 2013

Match Date: 18 October 2013 (local time)

Venue: Wirsol Rhein-Neckar-Arena

Bayer Leverkusen will have to face former team player, Eren Derdiyok in Hoffenheim’s grounds. But this encounter hardly worries both clubs as the two shall fight tooth and nail to obtain the most number of scores.

Team Form

Eren Derdiyok shall go against his former teammates, Bayer Leverkusen when they meet in Hoffenheim grounds soon. Derdiyok was one of Bayer’s striker and is now delivering goals for Hofffenheim.

The upcoming reunion, however, hardly bothers Mark Grisdol. But this does not mean that the club is going to play it easy. Grisdol is fully aware of Bayer’s strength and they can be a strong force to reckon with.

Hoffenheim’s current form is satisfactory. Occupying the 10th spot of Bundesliga’s table, the club has only won twice and lost twice. The rest of its  4 matches ended in a draw, just like what happened during the Mainz 05 clash. The former scored 2 early goals during the match. Kevin Volland fired the first goal on the 14th and this was shortly followed by Roberto Firmino on the 22nd.  However, the Mainz 05 army made a late rally which saw Eric Maxim Choup-Moting scored on the 82nd and Yunus Malli on the 90th.

Apparently, its inability to protect the lead is a major dilemma for the club. Moreover, Fabian Johnson will be sidelined due to an ankle injury.

Bayer Leverkusen

Bayer’s head honcho, Sami Hyypiä expects a stronger finish when they visit Hoffenheim. The club just forced the dominant Bayern to settle for a draw and retain its place in Bundesliga’s top 3.

There is no doubt that Bayer is among the strongest clubs this season. It won 6 out of its last 8 matches, lost once and drew once. But despite its achievement during the Bayern encounter, the Hyypiä continued to express his determination to take Bayer’s performance to another level.

Hyypiä’s concern is understandable and most importantly, shows his competitiveness. Considering all the matches that his team has been through, it cannot be denied that Bayern along with Schalke, Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund have been the only clubs that kept them on their toes.

This degree of competitiveness is what Hyypiä wants to maintain within the squad—and indeed, they are capable of surpassing every pitch displays and maneuvers. Their winning possibilities even increased as some of its key players have already recovered from their respective injuries. Stefan Kießling, for one, is expected to grace the Hoffenheim grounds after recovering from an ankle injury.

Football betting tip: Hoffenheim 1-2 Bayer Leverkusen

With Bayer winning 15 out of its last 16 matches, indeed, there is no question why they have the upper-hand in this encounter.
