Updated: September 13, 2013

Real Betis impressive home record shall be their main weapon against Olympique Lyonnais. The former has yet to have their taste of defeat when playing in their own territory, thus, making them the top pick of sports betting sites.

Real Betis

Real Betis finally debuts into the Europa League competition after an 8-year wait. Their last appearance was in circa 2005/06 where they finished on the 3rd spot of their group during their first Champions League stint. Unfortunately, the club has only managed to compete in the round of 32.

Short of several stages before they advance in the final, Real Betis is determined to take such opportunity to move farther into the competition. However, the bigger question is whether they can survive their matchday one battle against the French outfit, Olympique Lyonnaise.

Olympique Lyonnais

Similar to Betis, Lyon will be also participating in the tournament for the first time since 2002/03. The club has been a frequent contender in the Champions League prior to the above-mentioned season.
During their appearance, the club dominated in the round of 32 and accumulated a total of 16 points. Unfortunately, what seemed to be a promising journey, soon came to an end. The face-off with Tottenham Hotspur saw the latter walk away with the coveted victory based on aggregate scoring.

Up against another neophyte in the competition, Lyon expects another down the wire match as both clubs aspire for a higher rank in their respective groups.

The verdict: Real Betis to win by a goal

Real Betis is at their strongest when they play at home. In as far as facing a French outfit is concerned, the club already has a record of winning 3 home matches. The score, however, is not that high. In those matches, they have only scored a single goal. Considering those recent matches, their home record stands at 18 wins, 1 draw and 5 losses.

On the other hand, Lyon proves to be an equally aggressive opponent. Last season, they have not lost an away match. Yet, their opponents manage to score. Should this scenario happen in the match against Betis, they might wave the white flag soon.
