Just like any other squads, which qualified in the Europa League, both Salzburg and Celtic are eyeing for a strong start in their campaign. The Group Stage is a long and exhausting journey wherein only the strong will survive.

Both teams have experienced a frustrating fall-out from the Champions League qualifiers. Disappointing and to a certain extent, traumatic scenarios such as this one may readily affect a club’s performance. It could bring out the best or the worst in the participating clubs. However, it can be also considered as a true test to their determination and persistence.

The contenders

Salzburg, the online betting favorite,  was a step closer to advancing into the Champions League, but a sudden turn of events saw them on the losing end.

They had the lead when they went against Malmo FF. bagging a 2-1 victory in the first leg almost assured them of the Champions League spot until Malmo made a grand comeback in the 2nd leg. The latter hat-trick its way to the Champions League and kept a clean sheet, much to the disappointment of Salzburg.

Celtic’s story was a bit similar to Salzburg. Pitted against Maribor, the Scottish outfit generated a draw in their first meeting against Maribor. Unfortunately, Maribor sought redemption when they scored a goal and kept a clean sheet against Celtic.

Possible head turners

Celtic should be wary of Salzburg’s Jonatan Soriano’s presence. The latter has been a consistent poacher of the squad and can collect points at any given time.
