Europa League Preview: Estoril vs. Panathinaikos

Updated: October 1, 2014

Match Date: 02 October 2014 (local time)

Venue: António Coimbra Da Mota

Suffering a loss in their first Group Stage match, Estoril and Panathinaikos will fight tooth and nail to clinch a win and ensure their progress in the next stage of the competition. Expect a down the wire match happening between the two as they try to make a grand come back in the tournament.

The contenders

Estoril committed a costly mistake when they conceded a penalty on the 26th minute. This gave PSV Eindhoven the automatic lead and eventually, a win in the said match.  Estoril had the time to equalize and steal the limelight, but none of those ideal scenarios took place.

Panathinaikos suffered a similar fate with Estoril. Pitted against Dinamo Moscow, the club was unable to match its opponent’s scoring spree. It has managed to score a single goal and therefore, prevent itself from suffering a clean sheet, but still, the match’s outcome may not readily work into Panathinaikos’ advantage.

Possible head turners

Panathinaikos averages around 2-3 goals during its last 4 UEFA matches and with the help of Nano Gonzalez and Athanasios Dinas, they can unleash a scoring attack that Estoril may not be able to prevent. The latter has already failed to win its last 7 Europa League matches, which makes them a not so profitable online betting pick.

However, Panatahinaikos should remain on guard as Estoril might just pull off a stunner.
