Romania and Greece’s five most recent meetings have rendered them almost even, where they earned two wins and one draw apiece from various competitions. In terms of goals scored, however, the Greeks are slightly ahead.

Greece

Greece waited for more than two decades since their 1980 Group stage finish before they were able to win the entire Euro Championship in 2004 Portugal. The period between these tournaments rendered Ethniki empty-handed as they were not able to get past the qualifying. A very strong defense has so far been their most important quality since their victory as well as a good game which allowed them to finish as quarter finalists in the 2008 and 2012 editions. At the recent FIFA World Cup, they completed their campaign as a Round of 16 finalist, ranking 13th overall out of 32 teams.

Romania

Romania’s best finish in a Euro competition was in the quarter-finals in 2000, which was co-hosted by Belgium and the Netherlands. Overall, however, the side have had a very limited success in the competition. They are often seeded in very tough draws once they reach the finals and downfalls have been inevitable. They even failed to qualify in the 2004 and 2012 editions and only advanced through the Group stage in 2008. Tricolorii are unpredictable—in a not-so-good way—but are often regarded as dark horses who may surprise spectators and shock usual pitch superpowers.

Sports betting tip: Greece will open their qualifying campaign with a victory against Romania.
