Match Date: 07 September 2014 (local time)

Venue: Municipal Aveiro

Portugal shall be playing without its team captain, Cristiano Ronaldo. Yet, despite his absence, this will not prevent the squad from clinching its first win when it meets the minnow, Albania.

The contenders

Portugal’s team captain, Cristiano Ronaldo will be missing the first leg of the EURO 2016 qualifiers when the squad’s medical staff saw him as rather “unfit” to participate in the said tournament.

Prior to UERO, the talismanic striker was already suffering from tendonitis. The said injury has already  slowed him down during the recently concluded World Cup. Despite participating in several Real Madrid matches, this did not convince the squad’s head honcho, Paulo Bento to include him in the team. Apparently, the decision to exclude Ronaldo is to avoid further damages that could hamper his career.

Despite Ronaldo’s absence, Portugal has nothing to be afraid of as they the evident online betting favorite of the upcoming match.

Albania is up for a difficult challenge when they face Portugal. The former has not won a single match against Portugal and not even Ronaldo’s absence gives them the edge to clinch a victory.

Possible head turners

Helder Postiga can readily take the scoring responsibilities for the squad. Pepe and Fabio Coentrao could also feature. Yet, Pepe must watch out for his temper should he get a call from Bento. The defender got an early booking during the World Cup for throwing a head butt against the German striker, Thomas Muller.

What the odds say

Portugal is of course, deemed as the match’s favorite. The team is valued to win at 1.30.
