Chelsea vs. Newcastle United Preview: Chelsea Catapults To The Top Spot

Updated: February 5, 2014

Chelsea may not be the online betting title favorite as what Mourinho argues, but certainly, they are the top pick in the match against Newcastle United.

Match Date: 08 February 2014 (local time)
Venue: Stamford Bridge

Team Form

Trailing Arsenal by two (2) points and tied with Manchester City, Jose Mourinho and his men get the chance to go on top of the Premier League. This is despite Mourinho’s claim that they are far from being title favorites this season.

Chelsea currently brags an almost perfect form. Undefeated in their last six (6) matches, the triumph against the Citizens sent a strong message: that they are a force to reckon with. Other than that, it can be also described as one of the best ways to bounce back after a scoreless stalemate against West Ham United.

On the defensive side, the club was able to keep a clean sheet in six (6) of their last eight (8) matches and will most likely to the same when they meet Newcastle at Stamford Bridge. There is no doubt that the Blues are the strongest when they play in their own ground after having won their won their last twenty-one (21) encounters.

Newcastle United

Newcastle United’s top brass, Alan Pardew confronts a tremendous amount of pressure to secure a victory following the derby loss against Sunderland.

On a closer look, relegation is far from being a problem for the Magpies. They are comfortably sitting at the 8th spot of the table and evidently, far away from the relegation zone. However, doubts are beginning to crop out as they have only won once during their last six (6) matches and in encounters where they lost, the club was unable to score a single goal.

The above-mentioned situation further puts Pardew into the limelight of controversies when he permitted the exit of striker, Yohan Cabaye.

Prediction: Chelsea

Despite Mourinho’s humble denials, Chelsea is a definite title contender that will dominate the Newcastle United match.
