Real Sociedad

After a decade-long drought of a Champions League lining, Real Sociedad warriors are back to Europe’s most important football tournament. The club will debut in the competition with an expectedly fierce home match against veterans Shakhtar Donetsk. The face-off is scheduled on September 17 on a 02:45 kick-off.

Last season, Shakhtar Donetsk were able to reach the Round of 16 stage of the competition. Eventual runners up Borussia Dortmund proved to be a detrimental competition, disallowing the Miners to advance to the quarter-finals. Nevertheless, the side’s inclusion in the event gave them yet another opportunity to groom their pitch proficiency and repair any shortcomings for future battles. This upcoming match will be Shakhtar’s ninth time to compete in the group stage, a remarkable feat for a Ukrainian football betting favorite.

La Real’s last participation in the Champions League was in the 2003-04 season, where they finished second in a group amassing the powers of Juventus, Galatasaray, and Olympiacos before losing to Lyon in the Round of 16. Jagoba Arrasate’s men won their European home fixture from Lyon 2-0 in the second leg of their play-off, assembling a 4-0 successful aggregate finish. They had earned their place in the play-offs by raking the fourth spot in the 2012-13 Spanish La Liga.

Champions League betting tip: Shakhtar apparently have greater recent European experience than Real Sociedad, but the latter will commence their campaign on a flood of enthusiasm after recently accumulating magnificent playoff victories. This meeting will be both sides’ first time to compete against each other, and while it is still vague as to how this tourney will turn out, a deadlock is already being touted as the most possible result. Based on their five most recent performances across different competitions, La Real and the Miners have obtained three wins, one draw, and one defeat apiece.
