Champions League Preview: Barcelona vs. Ajax

Updated: October 17, 2014

Match Date: 21 October 2014 (local time)

Venue: Camp Nou

Despite its narrow defeat to Paris Saint Germain, Barcelona’s Champions League campaign is far from over. Only a point separates the two (2) football powerhouses—something that could be easily addressed. Barcelona, however, needs to overcome Ajax’s acid test before it could advance to the next stage of the competition.

The contenders

Barcelona’s clean slate in La Liga lessens the pressure of preparing  for their Champions League match. They should be able to capitalize on such privilege and eventually, steal the show against the football betting minnow, Ajax.

Barca debuted with a narrow win against Apoel Nicosia. However, the celebration was short-lived as PSG outlasted them.

Nevertheless, the Catalan giant will be playing at home so that eases the tension brought by the upcoming match.

Similar to Barcelona, Ajax’s Champions League continues. This is despite settling for two (2) consecutive stalemates.

Ajax’s hopes of qualifying to the next stage can still materialize. However, they need to win their succeeding matches to ensure a spot in the knockout stage.

Possible head turner

Aside from the great Lionel Messi, Neymar is one of the key figures that Ajax should be wary of.

Neymar took several shots and scoring opportunities during the match against Paris Saint Germain.  He only needs to be more clinical in order to convert the chances that came along his way.
