Champions League Match Preview: Bayern Munchen vs. Manchester United

Updated: April 4, 2014

Match Date: 09 April 2014 (local time)

Venue: Allianz Arena

Despite the fact that Bayern Munchen remains as the heavy online betting favorite against Manchester United, it cannot be denied that doubts begin to crop out. This was after the defending champion was forced to settle for a draw during the first leg of the quarterfinals at Old Trafford.

The above-mentioned stalemate was not the first for the Bavarian. Back in Bundesliga, it was Hoffenheim, which ended their undefeated streak. Draws are no strangers to Bayern. SC Freiburg and Bayer Leverkusen were the first 2 clubs that put a temporary stop to the Bavarians during the early stages of Bundesliga.

But what really made the draw against Manchester United unexpected was the fact that it was Bayern’s 2 consecutive draws. Since the season started, the club has always come back with a vengeance. Yet, what transpired was a different one.

The unexpected scenario has nothing to do with the waning popularity of Manchester United. A draw was indeed, a possibility in the said match. But having been forced to a previous even steven finish, the result simply raises questions.

Is Bayern having a hang-over from their recently concluded, Bundesliga success?

If that is the case, then David Moyes must really take advantage of such opportunity.

Manchester United is already out of the title race in the English Premier League. But it slowly regained its confidence when Robin Van Persie’s hattrick helped them overturn Olympiakos’ 2-0 lead. With Bayern’s seemingly complacent stance, Moyes gets a golden opportunity to secure a single trophy this season.

And maybe this could be the “last chance” for both clubs. The last chance for Moyes to prove his worth and the last chance for Bayern to achieve a back-to-back treble.

Prediction: Bayern Munchen
