Atletico Madrid and Barcelona

Match Date: 09 April 2014 (local time)

Venue: Vicente Calderon

It looks like another “El Clasico” is about to transpire in Vicente Calderon as Barcelona and Atletico Madrid clash for a spot in the Champions League semi-finals. But with some of their key players out due to injury issues, which of the two will earn the right to advance in the competition’s latter stages?

After a series of unfortunate events almost dragged them out of the title race, Barcelona is back on its feet. The club secured a crucial victory against Real Madrid, which cut down Atletico’s lead to a point. Likewise, the talismanic Lionel Messi is back to its scoring form. Messi delivered the important hattrick that helped Barcelona secure the 4-3 victory over its nemesis, Real Madrid.

Barcelona will definitely use their renewed confidence to gain the upper hand in the Champions League clash. But how long will their confidence last? The previous encounter saw Gerard Pique in distress due to a fractured hip and will be sidelined for 4 weeks. Certainly, the defender’s absence is crucial in preventing Atletico Madrid’s attacks.

Yet, as mentioned, Barcelona is not the only party suffering from injuries. Atletico’s trusted striker, Diego Costa is also struck by a possible hamstring strain. Tests will still be made to determine the injury’s extent.
Costa has been Atletico’s unstoppable scoring machine and his absence will definitely, force Diego Simeone to change the club’s playing style and look for alternatives.
With the injuries endured by both clubs, expect a down the wire match between the two. The safest assumption for the encounter’s result is a draw since both deserve to be the online betting favorite.

However, if experience is to be considered, there is no doubt that this definitely goes to Barcelona.

Prediction:  Barcelona
