Bundesliga Preview: VfB Stuttgart vs. Bayer Leverkusen

Updated: October 15, 2014

Match Date: 18 October 2014 (local time)

Venue: Mercedes-Benz Arena

Frustrating best describes the results of Stuttgart and Bayer’s previous matches. Both squads had the chance to own the spotlight. But the two teams had their own share of unfortunate events, which led to losing such golden opportunity.

The contenders

VfB Stuttgart

Pitted against Hertha Berlin, Stuttgart scored an early goal during their encounter. Sadly, it was their first and last goal. The capital club’s Salomon Kalou delivered a brace, which inspired the Old Lady to continue its attack. Hertha was simply too aggressive—so aggressive that Sandro Wagner was unable to control his intensity, he scored an own goal.

As a result of such defeat, Stuttgart fell into the relegation zone, with just a point ahead of rock bottom clubs like Hamburger SV and Werder Bremen.

Bayer Leverkusen

Bayer dropped to the 4th spot of the Bundesliga table after experiencing a stalemate against the newly promoted Paderborn. But despite of being overly bitter of the said result, the club has no other choice but to be satisfied. They almost lost the match if not for Karim Bellarabi’s late rally.

Possible head turner

Bellarabi could readily feature for the online betting favorite, Bayer Leverkusen. Bellarabi took crucial shots during the Paderborn face off. Despite the denials, his efforts soon paid off since he was able to score the much needed equalizer. Other than Bellarabi, Stefan Kiesling is also one of the biggest threats that will rattle Stuttgart in the pitch.
