Bundesliga Preview: Hoffenheim vs. Augsburg

Updated: August 14, 2014

Match Date: 23 August 2014 (local time)

Venue: Rhein-Neckar Arena

Last season, Hoffenheim proved that even the least favorite of sports betting sites could do the impossible. The squad was able to outshine Borussia Dortmund and forced the defending champion, Bayern Munchen to settle for a draw. Will they do the same when they face an equally aggressive Augsburg?

The contenders

Hoffenheim has managed to stay away from the 11th spot curse that has been plaguing them for quite some time when they it secured the 9th spot during the previous season. Apparently, the current aim is to move a notch higher and hopefully, play in a bigger tournament such as the Europa League.
From the looks of its current form, Hoffenheim is a budding threat in Bundesliga. The acquisition of FC Shalke’s Adam Szalai gave more depth to the squad. Szalai scored seven (7) goals for the Royal Blues last season and was one of the prominent figures to help Schalke propel in the league’s top three (3).

After surviving relegation in 2012/ 2013, Augsburg did an impressive job of climbing into the 8th spot last season.

The spectacular turn-around helped its head honcho, Markus Weinzierl earn plaudits and recognition for the seemingly unexpected miracle that he did in the club.

But Weinzierl’s efforts would not materialize if not for the outstanding leadership of the squad’s team captain, Paul Verhaegh.

Despite the strong finish, Augsburg is expected to experience a major transition and adjustment phase as one of its strongest midfielders, Andre Hahn left the squad.

Possible head turners

After his season long stay at Schalke, it cannot be denied that all eyes are now set on Szalai. The player has been outstanding throughout his stay in his previous club and many are expecting him to strengthen the squad’s attacking department whilst playing alongside with Roberto Firmino.

What the odds say

Odds valued at 2.13 sees Hoffenheim to take the upper-hand against the visitor.
